Which ever way you vote the Government get in. That's as may be. However, when the most powerful government in the world seems to be so superstitious and interested only in looking after their own small circle of rich, superstitious friends - then it leaves me wondering if the Americans could possibly vote in a worse government.

So far, Barack Hussein Obama promises to be about as much of a contrast to the Bush Regime as you could hope to get.

Unlike his short-on-progressive-ideas soon-to-be predecessor, Obama seems to be set on a course for major efforts to promote technology and science and to improve education.

He is eloquent. He is aware of global issues. On one pre-election news interview I saw - a voter seemed to think that he was the anti-christ. The concept of an 'anti-christ' is of course tosh. Barack, though, might (and let's hope that he does) turn out to be the anti-Bush.

I am just so pleased that he won the presidential election.

Here is a link to a podcast made by 'The Guardian' discussing what Barack Obama's election as US president means for science and the environment.
